Tech Tip - Blogs to Follow Over Summer
Blogs/Sites to Follow Over Summer
If you are looking to explore some technology over the summer, bookmark the following websites and/or blogs to learn more over the summer. This list is definitely not all-inclusive! This list is a smattering of some of the blogs and sites Brandon follows. Not all are tech focused blogs, but many are. Some of these blogs/sites can really challenge your thinking as an educator. Choose one or two blogs to follow over the summer and see if you can make it part of your daily routine to check those one or two sites. Once those have become habit, look for one or two more.

Horizon's Report Conclusion
I hope the series on the Horizon's Report has been beneficial to you. It's a great publication with lots of great information about the future of not only technology use in education but education in general. Some of the predictions may be ambitious, but without these ambitious predictions nothing would ever change. I challenge you to read through the report this summer and open your mind to new possibilities.
If you have any suggestions for topics or a series for the update next year, please let Brandon know. He's always looking to learn something new himself and share with others.

Then and Than
By: Jeff Haden, Business Careers & Workplace, 39 Commonly Misused Words and How to Use Them Correctly.
Then refers in some way to time. "Let's close this deal, and then we'll celebrate!" Since the celebration comes after the sale, then is correct.
Then is also often used with if. Think in terms of if-then statements: "If we don't get to the office on time, then we won't be able to close the deal today."
Than involves a comparison. "Landing Customer A will result in higher revenue than landing Customer B," or "Our sales team is more committed to building customer relationships than the competition is."

Horizon's Report Challenge - Personalized Learning
Integrating Personalized Learning
The demand for personalized learning is not adequately supported by current technology or practices. The increasing demand for education that is customized to each student's unique needs is driving the development of new technologies that provide more learner choice and control and allow for differentiated instruction. It has become clear that one-size-fits-all teaching methods are neither effective nor acceptable for today's diverse students. Technology can and should support individual choices about access to materials and expertise, amount and type of educational content, and methods of teaching. The biggest barrier to personalized learning, however, is that scientific, datadriven approaches to effectively facilitate personalization have only recently begun to emerge; learning analytics, for example, is still evolving and gaining traction within higher education.
Excerpt from the Horizon's Report preview.
This will be one challenge to keep an eye on. Not only is the technology not adequate yet, the current systems that are in place today are not sufficient. It would take a reworking of what the educational system looks like as a whole to make this change. Thus this challenge is a little harder to solve than the previous challenges explored.
